Spirit — “I Got a Line on You”
There’s never a bad moment to hear this track. Period.
These cats were the real deal, and while Love may steal all the plaudits, Spirit was the real soul of L.A. rock in the late 60s. And like good potato chips, you can’t hear it just once.
I like to imagine that somewhere (sadly, in the hearafter) Randy California is still wailing away on the solo. A bootleg version of this cut that I got my hands on recently still clocks in at 2:43, so they were clearly taken with the economy of it. Tight as any Swiss watch.
